Academic Program

Saint Luke School offers a comprehensive curriculum to students in kindergarten through grade eight committed to fully developing the capabilities of each child in a challenging, stimulating environment that emphasizes the mastery of basic skills.

Primary Grades (K-5)

All primary grades are self-contained classrooms, but the students receive regular, specialized instruction in French, art, computer, library, music and physical education. We use a modified Whole Language approach that includes phonics and spelling in addition to the core subjects of science, math, social studies, language arts, and religion. Study skills are introduced in 4th & 5th grade.

Middle School (6-8)

Grades 6-8 are departmentalized, with specialists teaching social studies, math, science, and language arts. Critical thinking skills, such as note-taking, outlining, and time management are particularly emphasized and are integrated into the sscience, math, and language arts curriculum. The seventh and eighth graders are divided into math classes a cc ording to testing results. Students who meet the requirements established by the Diocese are eligible to take pre-algebra in the seventh grade, and algebra in the eighth grade. Algebra students take placement tests at their high school of choice in May or June. Alternative classes of seventh grade math, and pre-algebra in the eighth grade are in place. Eighth graders also have the option of taking the National French Exam at year-end, or the placement tests administered by the high school of their choice to receive credit for French I and be placed into French II as freshmen.
