Community Outreach |
| Big Brother/Big Sister |
Each young child at St. Luke is assigned an older student at the beginning of the school year. Kindergartners are paired with fourth graders, first graders with sixth graders, second graders with fifth graders, and third graders with seventh graders. They celebrate this special friendship at a Mass in September and school Masses throughout the school year. |
| Care Packages |
Grooming supplies are collected by the children for donation to homeless shelters during Advent. |
| Coat Drive |
During Advent, the SCA sponsors the collection of coats to be distributed to homeless people. |
| Food Drive |
The SCA sponsors a Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Share Food Closet in McLean. Gifts are presented at a school mass. |
| Faculty Appreciation Days |
Once a month, parent volunteers representing each grade sponsor a luncheon for the faculty. Faculty Appreciation Week is in May. |
| Gift Mass |
Students bring gifts to donate to homeless children near Christmas. |
| Helping Hoops |
Each Spring, St. Luke School plays in an invitational basketball exhibit against St. Joseph's School, consisting of three games--eighth grade boys, eighth grade girls, and faculty mini game. The event raises money given to a charity selected by the students. |
| Kosovo Orphanage |
In 1999 St. Luke School adopted an orphanage in Kosovo and periodically holds events to help provide for the needs of those children. |
| Kids for Kids |
This new program provides children with an avenue to build and develop a sense of caring, compassion and tolerance for other kids by sponsoring events that benefit the charity of their choice. |
| Martha's Table |
The 7th and 8th grade students work at Martha's Table once a month preparing food for the McKenna's Wagon program which distribute meals to the homeless throughout Washington D.C. |
| Math-a-thon |
Students raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital by obtaining sponsors for their efforts in completing a math packet. |
| SCA |
The Student Council Association is our student run government. They sponsor activities such as Soccer Saturday, Helping Hoops, the school newspaper, recycling programs, Hot Chocolate Days, Green and Gold Classic, Parent Appreciation Day, No Uniform Days, food and clothing drives and other outreach drives. Student officers are elected each spring for the following year. |
| Third Grade Senior Citizens Luncheon |
Third grade students spend the year corresponding to pen pals who are senior citizens in the St. Luke community. At the May luncheon, the children meet their pals, share lunch and entertain their new friends. |
