Discovery Art Parent volunteers, using preplanned lessons, bring art work to the classroom for discussion, analysis, and creative projects.
Building Esteem in Students Today ™ (BEST) Students self-image and confidence are nurtured through the BEST program an ongoing series of thoughtful messages, activities, specific exercises and projects provided to teachers and parents to assist in the development of our children's character.
Colonial Days Fourth grade students participate in crafts, games, cooking and folklore from the colonial times.
Cultural Arts Program The PTO sponsors a series of assemblies with special guest artists for the students, usually on Mondays with 3:00 p.m. closings.
Enrichment Center The Enrichment Center provides a positive learning environment for children who need extra attention in organizational and/or academic areas. Children will be recommended by their parents and/or teacher and will be assessed on an individual basis to determine their areas of need. The center is staffed by professionals who work with the children on an individual basis. A fee is charged for this service. At times the Center will also be used for academic enhancement programs. Field Day A spring morning filled with fun, physical challenges and teamwork, followed by a picnic and student-faculty softball game.
Geography Bee Upper grades participate in National Geographic's Geography Bee. Winners go on to state and national finals.
Green and Gold Classic One Fall afternoon near Halloween, the SCA sponsors a flag-football game played by the 7th and 8th grade students. Lower grades wear costumes and upper grades wear team colors. Cake decorating, cake walk, and head and shoulders decorating round out the festivities.
Junior Great Books A small group of children who scored high on their standardized tests and are recommended by their teachers participate in the program during the school year. It combines interpretive discussion and activities with outstanding literature to encourage them to read for meaning and think critically. They are responsible for making up work missed in their regular class.
Medieval Festival Sixth grade students recreate a festival with booths and crafts and invite other grades to come share in the festivities.
Science Fair The entire school is invited to view the science projects and experiments created by the 6th through 8th grades. Participation in the Science Fair for lower grades is at the discretion of the teachers.
Spelling Bee The upper grade students participate in a school bee. Winners go on the Diocesan Bee, state and national contests.
Spring Arts Festival The children's work is displayed during the latter part of May.
Thanksgiving Meal and/or Celebration First and second grade students, and fourth and kindergarten students dress as pilgrims and Native Americans and recreate the first Thanksgiving.
Band Festival Bands in the Arlington Diocesan school system participate in the annual Band Festival held in March at either Bishop O'Connell or Bishop Ireton.
